3.5  Prepare the scan

Back to:  3. Scan a Book

              A.  The file must contain the same number of breaks as pages in the original
              B.  Do some clean up
              C.  About pagination, including Blank Pages
              D.  Is everything there?

A.  The file must contain the same number of breaks as pages in the original

      -  All the breaks in the file can be Section Breaks,  or  all the breaks in the file can be
         Page Breaks.
      -  One per page:  The number of breaks in your file must be the same as the number of pages in
         the original book.

B.  Do some clean up

A scan does not have to be entirely cleaned up prior to submission, but we do require some
preliminary corrections.  The book itself is available for reference during the scanning process,
hence the Submitter can ensure that the text is exactly as the author intended.

These types of situations should be by corrected the Submitter:
      -  garbled text,
      -  missing pages,
      -  duplicate pages,
      -  large chunks of junk characters.

Also, since cleaner book submissions are easier to proofread, cleaning up the scan prior to submission
will improve the chance that a book will make it into the library sooner.

C.  About pagination, including Blank Pages

For the treatment of pagination in general and Blank Pages specifically, please reference these sections
      in Chapter 4:

[3)  Only remove illegible text if doing so does not affect the Page Numbering]

      and

[5)  Don't remove Blank Pages if the Page Numbering will be affected]

D.  Is everything there?

      What makes a book complete?

A book is considered sufficiently complete for submission if it meets the requirements outlined in this
      section of Chapter 2:

      H.  Books must be complete
