3.2  Check for Eligibility, check for Availability

Go back to:  3. Scanning a Book

              1)  Check for Eligibility
              2)  Check for Availability

Before scanning a book, please make sure that Bookshare can accept the material and that the book is not already in the library or being processed:

1.  Check For Eligibility

      Bookshare CANNOT accept the following:
      *  Copyrighted material that does not contain the original copyright notice (including copyright owner(s)
         and date).
      *  Copyrighted dramatic works (such as plays), which are not covered under the Chafee Amendment.
      *  Exams, teachers’ editions of textbooks or sample course materials.
      *  Partial book scans, such as individual chapters.
      *  Any materials that are proprietary or were obtained illegally or in breach of any contract. For
example, Bookshare cannot accept materials already in digital form as issued by the original publisher
such as commercially available e-books or accessible digital book files received by schools directly
         from publishers.
      *  Digital books from other accessible book providers. Please note that Bookshare cannot accept
submissions of RFB&D digital books, nor Library of Congress Web-Braille books.
      *  Low quality scans, such as books with many OCR errors or missing page breaks.

2.  Check for Availability

Make sure the title is not already in the library or being processed:
      *  Search the library for both title and author (in case someone misspelled the title).
      *  Search the Books in Process list for the title.

Once you know the book is eligible and not already being processed or in the library, you are ready
      to begin scanning.

Note:  Bookshare often receives electronic Publisher Quality (PQ) files directly from partner publishing
houses.  When that happens, Bookshare is required to remove any scanned copies of the title
from the library.  If you've earned credit for scanning the title, your credit will remain intact.
